Naruto Shippuuden – It has been two and a half years since Naruto Uzumaki left Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, for intense training following events which fueled his desire to be stronger. Now Akatsuki, the mysterious organization of elite rogue ninja, is closing in on their grand plan which may threaten the safety of the entire shinobi world.
Although Naruto is older and sinister events loom on the horizon, he has changed little in personality—still rambunctious and childish—though he is now far more confident and possesses an even greater determination to protect his friends and home. Come whatever may, Naruto will carry on with the fight for what is important to him, even at the expense of his own body, in the continuation of the saga about the boy who wishes to become Hok.
With the exception of Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi, all the Hokages of Konoha make an appearance in this film. First Hokage Hashirama Senju appears in the prologue facing and fighting Madara Uchiha. Second Hokage Tobirama Senju appears in the prologue- in silhouette- slashing Izuna Uchiha. Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze appears in the prologue facing the Nine-tailed Demon Fox Kurama with his wife Kushina (their image also appears in a Genjutsu crystal bubble). Arial unicode ms bold.
Fifth Hokage Tsunade appears directing Konoha villagers into air shelters (and the ending). Sixth Hokage Kakashi Hatake plays a major part in the film. The Third Hokage is mentioned, however, and the contents of his storage box plays an instrumental part in the film. The prologue where Naruto and Hinata have their first personal meeting is based on filler from NARUTO SHIPPUDEN Episode 166. Just like the film, the episode has a young Naruto defend a young Hinata from bullies, failing in his actions (using a flawed Bunshin No Jutsu- Art of the Doppelganger) but nevertheless leaving a strong impact on Hinata. THE LAST keeps the main story points but alters the bullies' motivation, the seasonal setting, the dramatic tone, the ending (instead of Hyuga bodyguard Ko forcefully taking Hinata away from an unconscious Naruto, the film has Hinata thanking Naruto as soon as he regains consciousness) and gives Naruto a scarf that will influence a character plot point in the present-day part of the film. When the Hanabi Rescue Team travel through the lake, each member passes by a Genjutsu bubble that forms an image personal to them.
Shikamaru's Bubble portrays Team 10 (The Part 2 incarnation): Shikamaru, their mentor Asuma, Choji, and Ino. Sakura's Bubble is of Team 7 (The Part 1 incarnation): Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura. Sai's Bubble portrays a drawing of Sai and his brother Shin. Hinata's Bubble is of her younger self giving Naruto the ointment during the Chunin Exam Preliminaries. Naruto's Bubble portrays his parents Minato and Kushina. Although the film is based on the manga series, Hinata's confession sequence is from the Anime adaptation Naruto Shippuden, which differs from the source in terms of recollections. The manga version (Chapter 437) has Hinata remember three images: a memory of Hinata sadly huddling at a tree, a recollection of Hinata secretly watching Naruto training, and a close-up of Naruto laughing.
The Anime version (Episode 166) has Hinata remember six images: two scenes from the First Stage of the Chunin Exams (Naruto declaring his fortitude as Hinata looks on/A profile close-up of Naruto declaring his Ninja way), two scenes of Hinata and Neji's fight in the Chunin Exams Preliminaries (Naruto interrupting Neji's tirade on Hinata/Hinata fighting Neji while Naruto cheers her on), and two scenes of Naruto and Hinata's talk before the Final Stage of the Chunin Exams (Naruto telling Hinata what he thinks of her/Naruto admitting he likes people like her). The movie alters this sequence: the third recollection (Neji's tirade) is excised. A new scene of a young Naruto and Hinata's first personal meeting (from the film's prologue) is made the first recollection, with the original first and second memories moved up to second and third.
The film is set two years after the events of the original manga series. The film's theatrical release came a month after the manga series concluded its run in November 2014.

However, the anime series Naruto Shippuden had only reached Chapter 656 (of the original 700 chapters) at the time of that release. The film presented three scenes (A face off between Indra and Asura Otsutsuki, a face off between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha upon the statues of the Valley of the End, and the broken statue hands of Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha connecting to form the Seal of Reconciliation) that had not yet been adapted by the anime. It would not be until October 2016 that Shippuden finally covered them in its animated form.
