Next week i'm having my home's existing sound system (ceiling speakers in every room+outside) switched to sonos controlled with a C4 master controlling everything. I've got a standalone system of security cameras for my exterior run to a DVR in a separate wiring closet from the main. I am hoping to bring everything into C4 but unsure if they'll be compatible. They're Lorex/Flir wireless cameras but a year old. Unsure if they can be brought in with any ease. Is this something easy to accomplish or am I going to need new set of cameras?

I plan to do a re-wire on them and possibly even replace with a wired version chased through my attic to wiring closet #2 but would prefer to use what I have. Thanks again. Sounds like it is an analog Lorex. You won't be able to make that work in C4. When you change to IP cams, there is a generic driver that can be used if you can get the proper URLs from the camera manufacturer. Controlling the DVR/NVR will most likely require you to get a brand who already has a C4 driver implemented.

By the way, Sonos is now 'Endorsed' on Control4 but the support sucks. It is a result of Sonos' API and not the fault of Control4, who had much better support before it was 'Endorsed'.

I'd recommend keeping the wired speakers and using a matrix or if you have to go with a wireless system use HEOS instead because the support through Control4 is much better. Denon is actively trying to make HEOS work better with automation systems while Sonos is actively going the other way and trying to force you to use their app.

I pretty much agree wit everything you wrote, but I wouldn't necessarily replace Sonos with Heos. I agree that Sonos support and implementation sucks hairy balls, but Sonos is stil the leader by quite a margin when it comes to supported services.

That said, if OP is fine with the existing services available in Heos, then yeah, it's technically and sonically the better option. Plus, they make something Sonos should have made a long time ago: a rackable multi-zone player. You're 100% correct in recommending the matrix. For a whole house system that want to be able to evolve, this is clearly the way to go. I never though of the Lan thing, but yeah, that would work too. We always wire ours as in Paris there's just too many rogue (parasite) wifi networks and this wreaks havoc on SonosNet.

So we kill the wifi feature as standard. Lastly, any job that requires more than 8 Sonos players get a special Cisco switch which is the only one we've found that allows to have more than 8 Sonos without creating network issues. I don't have the model number off hand (I can look it up if you are interested), but it's a 10/100 switch and it's a 48-port model. For some obscure reason, this is the only one that works. If you want to view them inside the house, just go video out (HDMI, VGA, component, etc) of the DVR into an input on a video source and edit a driver to display the cameras on a tv.

If you want to use them remotely, is there an app for the camera system that you can set up a DDNS for and view them remotely? Is there an Ethernet port at all? If the DVR can be put on the network and supports ONVIF than it should work through an app one way or another. You can use any camera that is IP and supports ONVIF if your DVR/NVR does as well. Probably won't need to rewire if you have category cable at all.
